PlastiVan
The PlastiVan is a national education outreach program conducted by the National Plastics Center and Museum (Leominster, MA) that is geared to students in grades 3-12. It travels throughout the U.S. and Canada teaching students, teachers and the general public about the chemistry, history, processing and environmental issues of plastics. Over the past two school years, Mid-Michigan SPE brought the PlastiVan to the area for 4 weeks and reached over 4,300 students. The cost to our section to bring the PlastiVan to Mid-Michigan is $5,000 per week.
The PlastiVan program conducts hands-on science demonstrations in school classrooms related to polymers and plastics. Over the past school year, Mid-Michigan SPE has brought the PlastiVan to the area for a total of 5 weeks and reached over 4,200 students.
Todd Hogan, the Mid-Michigan Society of Plastics Engineers Educational Chairman, was recently recognized by the National Plastics Center & Museum for his activities in securing funds for these visits.
