SPE International Essay Contest
This annual essay contest allows middle and high school students the opportunity to win up to $1,500 by submitting an essay on the topic of plastics. Cash awards were given for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners, of $500, $250 and $100, respectively. Each of the winners was also presented with a framed certificate. The 1st place essay was entered in the International contest, where the wining essay receives an additional $1,000. Over the past eleven years, the Section has received 361 entries for the essay contest. The local winner also won the International Essay Contest in 2001. This program costs approximately $1,000 per year.
